Strong team work and enthusiastic children

Hello Everyone.........

Generally in Sahaya we organize events based on the ideas from volunteers or from a team discussion. But out of the box this time we have organized ""Field Trip"" to DRK Engineering College on  request by a student from 9 class in Z.P.H.S Kukatpally.

Firstly as usual a wonderful effort from all the volunteers especially from DRK for their extravagant efforts in organizing this event successfully. Team work by the volunteers was the stand out factor in the whole event. Though they were given a short notice, they have organized excellently and made this one of the perfectly organized field trips in sahaya.

Secondly we'd like to heart fully thank the College management for permitting us to conduct this event.

I don't want to generalize the outcome of the event by quoting " Students were very happy,we could see happiness in their faces". The main intention of field trip is to give them an undercurrent encouragement and making them in getting exposure to the world which they will be stepping out.

Yes the children were happy obviously they would be and the fact which really made us happy was the response from students after the field trip.Initially when they were questioned on their interest towards engineering there were very less no. of students who answered it. But after the completion of field trip the response to the same question was excellent. That was enough for all of us because the purpose of their trip was fulfilled. The interest with which they were observing  labs and  the way they maintained discipline was very good

I would also congratulate the kids for being lucky enough to visit an engineering college even before their 10th  standard as many of us has entered after intermediate. This earliest exposure to the college environment would definitely create a mark in their minds and most of them take this as a factor of inspiration and continue further effectively.

Concluding,we collectively are very much thankful to the management of DRK for their continuous  support to the events of sahaya especially for the book collection drive that was recently organized in DRK which has produced a good no.of book.

On behalf of campaigning team we are very happy that one of the major events was completed successfully by the courtesy of a team work. Hope this support would continue further on the book collection drive which is going to be completed on NOV 10.

Team sahaya..... let us continue the same for the next nearest target (Book collection drive) as our work together as team would create wonders which is already a proven fact..

TEAM WORK - DREAM WORK

It is well known that "Teamwork" can lead to better decisions. When "WE" work together it can complete tasks faster by dividing the work among ourselves based on different abilities and knowledge. In our Book Collection Drive, I have witnessed a great Teamwork in reaching our targets. Words were short after looking into last one month active participation from our volunteers towards the drive.

Every volunteer offered their unique knowledge and ability to help/improve other volunteers in our Book Collection Drive process. Through teamwork the sharing of these qualities will allow volunteers to be more productive in the future phases. One can visualize the passion of each volunteer from the below comments

INITIATIVE:
"Let us not waste time. All the volunteers must get ready for the Mobile campaigning, if we are not permitted for the campaigning in the college premises. We need to finish this campaigning part before the vacation (Dussera) inorder, not to give a pause to the book collection drive."
 --Sree Sruthi
PLANNING:
"We also have plans like going to any school in the mean time and asking them for comic books because being engineer student i know what books we have and what not so campaigning in school for books is beneficial than campaigning in colleges"
 --Yaswanth
RESPONSIBILITY:
"Today me and Divya (out of our own interest) started the campaign SAHAYA BOOK COLLECTION DRIVE , about which most of the students at JBIET were not aware"
 --G.Divya
ACCEPTABILITY:
"The main reasons for collecting less no of books are
1) We haven't got any permission for campaigning
2) Most of them have promised that they would be bringing books, but haven't brought them"
 --Sreeraam
COORDINATION:
"As discussed earlier OCT 10 will be the last day of the Phase 1 in campaigning. Hence we request all the representatives to update the status here about the book collection drive in your colleges"
--SAHAYA Campaigning Team
STATISTICS:
"122 Story Books, 38 English Reference books, 30 General Knowledge books, 12 Kids' Magazines, 8 Atlases, 8 Dictionaries, 8 self- improvement books, 5 books on Hindu Mythology, 2 Encyclopedia, 2 Novels..."
 --Nischal
EXPECTATIONS:
"Today the response was just amazing. Many are interested to join as volunteers in Sahaya. I am sure that new volunteers will join with us in the next sessions"
--Mounika
STRATEGY FORMULATION:
"No further promotion process has been done in college due to exams and also gap because of holidays. We will be doing promotion from 17th i.e., after holidays. More books can be expected from college after holidays. we would like to continue book collection in college till the end of this month"
--Pratibha
Hopefully this transition will move from "Make a Dream - Start your Team" to "Make your Team - Chase your Dream"

The Day You Stop Learning Is The Day You Stop Growing

This post is inspired from the line “The Day You Stop Learning Is The Day You Stop Growing

I am overwhelming by the level of enthusiasm and the commitment from all the volunteers of Sahaya during on-going Book Collection Drive '13.

Sahaya Book Collection Drive ’13 is creating an opportunity to the Govt. School Children for easy access to their favorite ones. Starting from Dictionary to Atlas, Story books to Work books anything will be accepted in this Drive provided the condition of book should be reasonably well. Sahaya Campaigning team took up the responsibility of organizing this drive in and around 8 reputed colleges in Hyderabad and planned to make available these collected books to children on Nov 14th 2013 during its first phase.

The benefits of books are enormous, some books will inspire us, reading the stories and understand how they articulated, some of them will give immense courage and determination and stand as a great inspiration to go on and achieve our dreams. Reading is significant, everybody who wants to better their life should read a book every week infact every day, when we stop learning we stop growing and in this life we do one of two things, either we move forward in life or stay where we are.

The intention of this Book Collection Drive is a combination of many factors, where we have observed in our regular sessions on the significant impact in every student life. Some studies stated that in a single hour span, the average student will divide their time between listening to class, murmuring with their mates, monitoring their premises, completing homework in advance and many more. But here if we can add a component of “reading books” which will helps improve the concentration that helps to exercise and boost the memory powers because it encourages to remember characters, their backgrounds, ambitions, history and facts.

In addition, story books can engage students in a world which is miles apart from their own, here they can have a glimpse of what goes on in the lives of many fictional characters, where there is a great chance of experiencing empathy, sympathy and compassion, this definitely improves the “Power of Imagination”. There are lots of advantages of books where it will expand the awareness and knowledge, each book will make student more wiser and intelligent and in turn it also helps to improve their vocabulary.

Finally, one can never stop learning and there is an endless supply of knowledge, information and entertainment available in the form of books. Please come forward and donate books at Sahaya Book Collection Drive ‘ 13.

Best Regards

Vibrant and full of colorful hope through books

Our logo design incorporates a rainbow, Clouds, and a Book. Each 3 aspects of the design represent small parts of our dream Library for children.

Rainbows always stand for hope. Everyone can relate to the rainbow because it's in nature. It's rare, but when it appears everyone can see it. This simplicity and rareness would comprise curiosity, a Joy for Children through Sahaya.

Clouds are symbol of imagination, creativity, and also inspiration. We sow seeds of inspiration in these books have motivated children to follow their dreams and achieve their potential.

Books - There are many little ways to enlarge child's world. Giving kids the Joy of reading is best of all. Every time we open a book, we discover something new – a beautiful story or a fairy-tale, the strange and wonderful habits of animals, the mysterious world of science, and the customs of people who live in a far-distant country.  And every time we open a book, kids learn something new – learn numbers and letters, colors and shapes, poetry and songs.

Books are, quite simply, windows on the world!
A library is a place to read and to enjoy and celebrate books.

Every support, big or small, is a rainbow of hope.
You can choose to be a part of spreading the Joy.

Donate books. Enlighten lives. Ignite Minds.

Sahaya Premier League-13

Every Sunday has something or the other that makes the day special, but quite often they are made special by the SAHAYA sessions. The previous Sunday (15/09/13) was altogether different from the previous Sunday’s and previous sessions, it was a combination of Brain Storming session & Sahaya premier league. It turned out to be the best combination ever, and to this combination rain added much more essence& value (priceless).

The SPL-13 started with the match between the home ground team KUKATPALLY KINGS & SHAMSHIGUDA SHERS; it was the match that I would never forget in my life. The spirit & the sportsmanship shown by the players of both the teams despite rain was Incredible & the captains of both the teams
(Sreeram.G & Divya.P) who stood out in the front to represent their respective teams deserve a standing ovation , the match was nail biting were the result was not decided until the last ball. SHAMSHIGUDA team had the upper hand in the end.

There were many things that one can discuss about this match, rather than describing them in this article it would be better that I start writing a book. (Semi-Colon Parenthesis)

Stats of the match: Kukatpally 49 Runs in 10 Over’s
                             Shamshiguda 50Runs in 9.4 Over’s

(Final result: Shamshiguda won the match by 1 wicket).

Both the teams showed the spirit & Competition which is quite often observed in matches between INDIA & PAKISTAN. One thing that I can say to the people who missed this match, you missed a life time experience.

And the second match of SPL-13 was between the SHAMSHIGUDA SHERS & MOSSAPET MUSKETEERS, it almost looked like a one sided match, Moosapet Team have dominated the match completely from the starting. The Innings by Sreeram Bhagavathula was worth watching and made him not only a great leader but definitely a great cricketer. His Innings showcased his love & respect towards the game of cricket.

Moosapet won the match quite sensibly & emerged as the strongest team of the day.
Few people who were unique throughout the day:

Best Team: Shamshiguda
(played 2 games Back to Back, despite the bad climate)

Best Catch: Tej from VNR

Best Performance overall: Ravi from Shamshiguda

Most Consistent Player: Prathibha (1st ball four, next ball out)

Umpire of the Day: Harsha Vardhan

Super Golden Duck: Rama Raju (Credits to Anirudh for his golden words)

Bowler of the Day: Naga lakshmi (Three wickets in One over)

Best Silent Supporter: Divya Pinky

Active Players of the day: Sreeram.G, Manoj & Om Prakash

Coordinator of the day: Srikanth Kothala

Sledger of the Day: Nischal Samji

Cheer Boy of the Day: Anirudh

Best Captain: All FOUR

Guest of the Day: Bharat Reddy

In the end it was SAHAYA who won the match

We care, We Educate & We have Fun. We're Sahayans

Adios,
Anirudh Kasibhatla

Exploring New Methods of Teaching

Sahaya retreats periodically as a continuation of tradition from the establishment early on. Watching volunteers in action at regular sessions, events, gatherings and brainstorm sessions is an opportunity at lucid best growth of organization in providing better services to kids we are working for. This always motivates each one of us, brings out more ideas, with every idea we get a step closer to our goals.

More than teaching kids English and organizing events we are building platform for kids where they can design their dreams and more importantly achieve them.

The following illustration in our own creative way  in our teaching.

Children leaders - Idea was borne out from many discussion between our Volunteer G.Karthik and Nischal.

"Encouraging  high class students to teach/mentor the lower class"

Here is the illustration of IDEA by Sree Sruthi a volunteer from ZPHS kukatpally. She asks...
Ever tried asking this question to the students in the schools we visit?
Try asking this question, their answers will surprise you.

There is an increasing pressure on the volunteer, especially with large, overcrowded classes of pupils with varying abilities, standards, mediums and languages. However, volunteers try to gather children's interests through various assessment methods and come up with productive ideas to motivate kids on their interests.

Kesana Santhosh Kumar suggested us to organize a field trip to motivate kids he teaches regularly.

Field Trip

Children learn about different professions, ideas and opportunities when they visit new places. A field trip can awaken the desire in a child to try new things and pursue previously unconsidered dreams and can spark new interests and passions.

There is much more that we have been able to accomplish in Sahaya. It is in the doing that we find out how kids can be motivated, inspired, benefited and what our own wonderful idiosyncrasies will be working.

Here illustration is the tool that I used to spark conversations and help volunteers build bridges within our team and across friends of Sahaya.

Thank you for being awesome

To make all our volunteer feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make optimism come true.

To those who think only the best, work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of organization
as are about children.

To learn from the challenges of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every kid you meet a smile.

To volunteer who give so much time to the improvement of children
To every little deed, to every caring effort
Its time to appreciate who does something AWESOME.

A glimpse of work process with the help of Sanjana :-)

Cheers,
Srikanth

Stay tuned for updates on Giving kids the joy of reading

Mentoring Process at ZPGHS, Narsapur

I can say "life time opportunity for me to experience the Best"

We all know mentoring is not a new concept, but it only matters on how we look into this process. For me, mentoring process should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound.

The inception of this idea was borne out from a discussion between our Senior Volunteer Pro G.Karthik and our Chief Editor Nischal on April 28th 2013, where it started off with "encouraging some of the upper class students (10th) to teach/mentor the lower class". By the time it was an impossible proposition, but when we started analyzing on its practical implementation, we got to know that children will get benefited with the opportunities tailored to the needs within their own circumstances.

It's a tough decision to start off our mentoring process with Narsapur school because of its distance decay with other schools that we'd adopt. However with all faith driven hope, we have experienced the "Best Moments" during this entire mentoring process.

On 3rd August 2013....

Super Team of  13 lead by Ms.Shivani

                                                       During Mentoring Process

We noticed that the "Communication" plays a vital role in this process, where 10th class children should have rapport with 6 & 7 class children  that helps this program run smoothly.

On 15th Aug 2013...

Here is the Beautiful Picture story....

We won't find any beautiful art than this...

Students were practicing to perform for a Patriotic song

                                                                          At 7.30am
                                                                         At 8.30am

In this process, mentor efforts will bring energy to the program which able to expand participation and increase overall support from the participants.

One of our Mentors Ch. Priyanka with her feedback on this process

                                                              Feedback in detail

Very simple feedback, but effective as well, she strongly believe in mentoring process which is about individual learning and growth.

                                                                       Super dance Show

                                                                       Full House

                                                                         Patriotism

The main intention is to make our Mentors to gain invaluable insight beyond their own education and experience. In turn we strongly believe, these mentors can inspire and guide all the Volunteers of Sahaya in near future.

We are greatly looking forward to have these mentoring programs regularly in all Sahaya adopted schools for the benefit of Children. We will be encouraged students with specific goals and expectations in their academic pursuits.

Finally, we would like to THANK each and every volunteer by name for their strong foundation towards Event Oriented Activities under the name "Swecha".

With Respects

August 15th celebrations - Swecha 2k13

I have been planning to write a blog post since SWECHA 2k13 event started . So, let me begin with the  SWECHA  event. Every year SAHAYA conducts various activities to bring out the talent of children.  This year for Aug 15th , Extempore and Quiz were conducted. Despite many hurdles, Our volunteers and children made this event a huge success.

Initially when we explained children regarding Extempore event on Day1 in Shamshiguda school, the participation of students was not up to the mark . Later when we gave them some tips on how to remember the topic while speaking , how the flow should continue from introduction to conclusion , 80% of the class were interested to participate. Some children chose their own topics to speak and asked us to provide the content . In a session, prior to the event day , kids were well prepared by then and they insisted us to conduct a mock event.  Seeing the fellow mates participate, other children also enthusiastically came forward for participation.

Coming to the Quiz , D.Kiran from 7th class & Ch.Sandhya Rani  from 8th T.M (Shamshiguda school) were out of our imagination in I.Q terms . In visual round, we din’t know some of the places , but these children at one go, revealed the answers. They were happy with the way events were conducted and insisted us to conduct  such kind of events.

I would like to specially mention about the SWECHA event conducted at ZPGHS Narsapur because in this school senior children mentored their juniors in this event process.

“ Proper Prior Planning Prevents Pitifully Poor Performance “

This was perfectly executed by Sreeram. One session took place prior the event conduction day  where Sreeram , Srinath ,Ramaraju played a key role in explaining the team mentors(10th class students) about the Extempore event. When Juniors have any doubt regarding the event , they would pose a question to the Senior where they would justify the answer by taking the assistance of books from Library. Shivani (10th class) took the lead role in mentoring the whole process .

Coming to Aug 15th , My day started by reaching KP school to collect the gifts for students who excelled in these events. Later reached Shamshiguda school , after flag hoisting ,Nagalakshmi gave a speech which inspired students to further participate in many more events.

Real celebrations started when I reached back KP school . Phani gave an introductory session to new volunteers . Later all volunteers gathered in a class and here comes the most awaiting part I want to share. Sreeram  came up with an activity for volunteers . Some chits were prepared in which some real time scenarios were posed as questions . This is one of the best session I had  in SAHAYA till date.

When Karun was posed a question regarding  the effective measures to be taken in maintaining the quality of a session  , He replied in his most modest way explaining that class can be divided into teams which develops a competitive spirit between them leading to the righteous results.

When its Anirudh turn , he chose a question to mention the various  volunteer  development programs  .He replied that Group discussions , Mock interviews can be conducted.  This question was perfectly answered later by Nischal saying that “ SAHAYA “ itself is a volunteer development program . In fact many volunteers directly /indirectly conveyed the same while sharing their experiences .

The most interesting question “ What are the steps to be taken for president role “ was posed to Srinath and he replied effectively that He would think as a volunteer, how it can be done and in the role of a student , what will be expected from volunteer and whatever decision he takes should be accepted by others too. He also mentioned that he was very thankful to Sreeram for making him as a decision maker.

In between these questionnaire , memento  are given to the best performers in every aspect . Special thanks to creative head Srikanth and Sanjana for making the hand made mementos .

“A problem well stated is a problem half solved “

Following this statement,  Sreeram asked Akhilesh and Santhosh to share their problems faced while conducting this event and had a discussion on how to prevent it further. Last but not the least, children's most favourite volunteer Ramaraju (birthday boy) shared his views on how to control an in-disciplined class. He quoted at last about his experience saying “Experience to be experienced “ .

On every such occasion , we come to know that session has ended by Sreeram’s single sentence “ Thanks to Dharani and Srikanth for their valuable support “ and Nischal’s announcement “ Assemble for a photo “ . :-)
Had the most memorable day in SAHAYA journey – 67th Independence day

Cheers,
Divya Panjala

An Year of Simple Steps

Relationship not of blood but of heart

I  had an online conversation with an unknown person and this led me to step into an NGO which I didn't even know,I had no idea what was going to happen...But this step I took brought a lot of change in my life ....

On the 14th of August 2012 at 9:22 PM, I had a conversation with one of the volunteers of SAHAYA and I got a idea... Why Shouldn't I take a look into this. Next day, Early in the morning.. i.e on 15th August 2012 where I went to a govt school at Kukatpally after some phone calls. With little struggle, I got a chance to interact with Jagadeesh ,Karthick and Varun, with which I started my steps in Sahaya with a state of confusion.

It was my First session when I went to 9th class

I entered a busy class room, it was really tough for me to make them sit quiet and listen to me. With no surprise kids saw me as alien from  an other planet. Before getting into the class I received few  instructions and a bit of guidance from senior co-volunteers. With little effort I made kids to sit quiet and I saw those enthusiastic faces of kids with all smiles looking forward to listen something new that day. These are my first memories in Sahaya.

I was little shocked when I entered the school with few volunteers but later in few seconds, I realized that I was a bit early to school that day... Meanwhile, a kid who saw me in the previous session came to me and I gave him some tips in algebra.

Later, I got familiar with the process in Sahaya and kids as well. Along with the handout provided, I always felt that there are many more things that can be taught to kids and with a little preparation my sessions were much more productive.

I learnt that everyone makes mistakes
A mistake that was pointed out by a kid named HARI PRASAD from  my class-room is a silly one, that i made it in case of COLOR, he said it was COLOUR  I made them overcome these little mistakes by making them to talk to each other in English and making their own points on the given topics

These are the five sessions where i did my best, with help of the cute kids.

Later...

Preparation for 26th Jan came out and I had no idea how this will be done, but TO BE FRANK... I JUST DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL  26TH JAN WHAT A COLLAGE MEANT, but each and every volunteer worked hard in each and every school I attended and I can just say that SAHAYA stood support to every kid, took them to heart as a brother not of blood but of heart,In the span of this 365 days I learnt more than what i taught but this made me to say proudly that I am not working with an NGO but with my complete Family of SAHAYA

The most memorable moments with SAHAYA family
Every step i took is not my mind but with my heart when i started with an uneasy step
but that step though it was uneasy made each and every step so simple
The cricket match B/w Volunteers and Kids
The 26th event which made me how to mould to become better
The unbelievable and unexpected gift to this selfish fellow as

                BEST VOLUNTEER

the above all are my role models of my present life

                   joined+cared+educated = SAHAYA
i now proudly say that      I am sahayan

My journey in sahaya (ONE-TWO-THREE)

Well, before starting to write a blog post firstly I’d like to have a recap of the most wonderful experiences from the past three years. I’d like to enter into the post by congratulating all my co-volunteers on their fantastic efforts in the completion of “SWECHA-2K13”. Though these are stereotypic and regular words from me but I’d again like to prefer thanking all my core team members for their wonderful support. A word which has been influencing me more than anything in my life, a wonderful and memorable journey which has been continuing from 3 years ie., SAHAYA ……

Exactly three years ago on August 7, a session in gowdavely,  has changed my entire calendar and entire life style which brought me into sahaya. Earlier I thought it was just a group of students helping school kids but as time moved on , I realized that it was not just a group it’s a world of positive minded and truly determined people who stood on one single stand and diversifying themselves and creating a serious impact in their surroundings.
According to my analysis I was unlucky because I couldn’t come to know about a network which is out of focus of all the media and unwanted publicities, which is still continuing to play a decisive role here in our society.
The essence here in Sahaya is you may have different thoughts, different ideas and plans but when you step into a school your mind and soul stops thinking of all those and you will seriously start thinking about the kids. If your thoughts still deviate you don’t worry the volunteers and core team will definitely format your ideas and impart the dedication, efforts towards the students. I guess each and every volunteer will agree with me.

YEAR-ONE:
A regular volunteer but childish and a bit ignorant. But still got some wonderful opportunities like “Field Trips” “MY LIBRARY” which really has laid a foundation for my learning and a thought provocation for changing my self.

YEAR-TWO:
A slight transformation in analyzing the things,a bit mature and improvement. I’d personally feel this year has got a decisive role in my entire life as this year in sahaya not only brought my positive thinking back but also some leadership skills which were hidden down in the corner. This year the core organizer of Technical fest and some IEEE events as said earlier I’d dedicate them to Sahaya which has brought out some skills out of me.

YEAR-THREE:
This year the trust and the belief that my core team had on me was inexpressible. HITAMP,CORE TEAM CHOICE,SCHOOL HEAD these things are wonderful gifts for me which I’d like to cherish in my entire life.Very happy to see Sahaya featuring in newspapers and elated seeing the turn-up and dedication of new volunteers from VNR and HITAM.

Thanking Note:
I’d like to take an initiative on behalf of every volunteer in thanking core team, editorial team, and treasury team. Personally I’d like to thank my co-volunteers from HITAM, my juniors and all the other volunteers for excellent efforts and being a point of inspiration in each and every situation during these 3 years.

Concluding, these three years which were very short and wonderful has given me many chances to prove thanking for that I’d like to have a word for my self “I will definitely give my best efforts and my dedication to the maximum extent.

“Learning” leads to “Experience”

Sahaya Society is a social organization where a group of volunteers   teaches children in government schools started and was started by engineering students in the year 2008. But according to me, it’s not only a non profitable government organization, but also a family where all the volunteers are treated as the family members looking towards our society, to develop, find the talent of the children,  make them understand what they can do and what they can incorporate for themselves.

Before joining Sahaya my thought was helping others means giving money or doing some work and that will give a lot of satisfaction and happiness, but after joining Sahaya, what I thought was completely wrong, it gives only a little satisfaction.

So after few days in Sahaya, got a new thought as
“Spending money for helping others will give you a little satisfaction but spending some time with the children to develop them will give you an immense satisfaction. “

The above quote is dedicated to Sreeram anna, who is the person inspired me to come forward in any situation, either it is positive or negative, decision making is important and should be the perfect decision on which everyone keeps a hand. The core team members’ dedication should be appreciated a lottttttttt…….

My experience towards Sahaya is “giving something to some one will give you some thing in return”. If we impart our knowledge to the children, in return they also teach us something in many ways.

My first session started at Gowdavelli ZPHS and now continuing in with ZPHS Kukatpalli. The students in the schools were very active and they were in the spirit of learning new things. When I was going to a class 7th T/M in gowdavelli, I heard some words from one student telling others as “Sahaya anna vaalu vacharu eesari kotthaga em cheptharoooo”. The curiosity made me to tell them something new for the students and made them play a game and started preparations for august 15th events.

The most awesome session was ZPHGS Narsapur, where students are very well disciplined and curious to listen.

Days have passed in Sahaya, volunteer interactions started called Maithri, and we had some wonderful meetings. The clear picture of Sahaya started as improvements in the existing process. After few days, Sahaya library was started with a great campaigning process in various colleges around the city.

Every time organizing innovative events for the school students has helped us a lot and career guidance sessions to the volunteers such as mock interviews, experience sharing, and interactions with experts was beneficial to all the volunteers.

Thanks to Eshwar Babu (my senior in school, inter, B.tech and forever) for letting me join Sahaya.

The Day When Days Turned to Year

Exactly 365 days (27th July) before I Got a call from an Unknown Number When I attended the call, the person on the other side said “Shut up and Come to Gowdavelly”, That’s it the call ended there. During Our recess I again got a call from the same number saying to come down near the main gate of the college. When I went there I saw Eshwar (THE BEST VOLUNTEER OF SAHAYA), he took me to Gowdavelly School and there began my Journey in SAHAYA.

I went there took a session for almost 2hours for the 6th E/M, There was a girl named “MUSKAAN” who taught me to how to smile at any instance, however grave the situation is. The Session ended and when I came back I found myself fighting to get out of the atmosphere that was created around me by the children of 6th E/M (Presently 7th E/M).

THEIR LOVE & RESPECT HAD NO BOUNDS

In the past one year there were many things that I forgot, one of them was at the DRAWING Competition held in GOWDAVELLY School on 4th August 2012, There was a girl who made the drawing using the JANMA BHOOMI theme to describe the national Integrity.

At that time I couldn’t remember that and after the session I couldn’t forget that.

And later on there were many things that were a part of my life and the rest changed my life. The Volunteers of SAHAYA were neither my relatives nor my Childhood friends but still they are my life.

And then came the day “MAITHRI (The Anniversary of Sahaya)” Where I was awarded for the BEST BLOG POST. I still remember every minute of that day I had spent along with my fellow mates & The TEAM behind SAHAYA.

If I start writing all my experiences, then it would be better I write a book. Writing a book will happen for sure, but at present I want to keep it short and simple. As stated in all my previous articles I urge all my mates & others to be a part of SAHAYA and experience the best and finest. And Script their Journey and share their memories. Because,

To Volunteer you don’t need a graduate degree, all you need is a degree of caring.

Come, Join us & be a part of the change.

Let’s meet in SWECHA & go with PRAGATHI of Children.

Thank you

Introducing Swecha - Celebrating freedom

Thanksgiving

In general, our lives are built by the people; there will be lot of influence on us because of that people. So far, one person has stood out the most in this role, my friend Dharani Kumar who is a very strong willed, intelligent and inspiring person to me.

Dharani always believe that “a single person taking on multiple tasks will not be able to perform at a same pace as a team can. When people work together they can complete tasks faster by dividing the work to people of different abilities and knowledge”

Being Treasurer to a non profitable organization is most challenging job in terms of better utilization of available resources depending upon the requirement list. He took the responsibility to ensure our organization have resources to carry out the stated aims and objectives, neither they overspend nor under spend. It’s great to know that he is having accurate records and supporting documentation to a reasonable level of detail that provides a clear idea for all transactions.

Sahaya is known for its innovative events during patriotic occasions, but there is a tremendous amount of work has been carried out interms of budgetary planning. However, Dharani’s long term diligence and efforts most importantly his presence during sessions has provided an opportunity to experience the elevated level of energizing volunteers and feeds the cycle of success.

Indeed it is a great feeling for me to think that we have been worked together for so long but the moments have never reached to its extremity. With his new Avatar from Chennai, I feel new Sun of hope will rise shortly. Finally I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dharani for the support we’ve received here and we wish him to reach many milestones in all his future endeavors.

Dharani, You are so incredible!

Best Wishes

On future design..

We have been brainstorming on a lot more ways to improve the quality of activities in Sahaya. One of the key things we have identified is the need to educate the children about life skills. Children have to be ready for everyday events. By skills, I mean competencies that are useful in everyday life.

There is that kind of knowledge that can not be learnt by itself. For some notions, concepts, ideas or process, one can’t just know them without having a external input. Not everybody is a genius. This is why for communications skills improvement, computers usage, career guidance, general awareness, moral values, science and many more topics children need to be introduced by teaching.

We decided to challenge ourselves to see how this can be addressed. We are working on various innovative activities that tries to address this.

More precisely, there are many types of life skills, that we can sort in several categories. Thinking skills (self-awareness, smartness, problem-solving ability…),  Social skills (verbal communication, reading, writing…), General knowledge (history, art, current affairs, philosophy, moral…). Each of them can be taught by us.

Why should we teach this? Again, get children ready. Because life isn't easy for anyone. Also, by having such skills in their backpack, they are more likely to become wise adults, responsible and society-adapted. The best advantage we see in acquiring them is the enlargement of their opportunities, whatever they dream of.

Here’s hoping that more of the quality and innovative ideas come in to action and are successful, so that our Mission can bring in more value to children.

Strive and Thrive - It's A First interaction Session of this year

"They say just living is not enough. You need little sunshine, few raindrops and a tinge of freedom to experience life in a life itself."

A day of a kind. My visit to a session, and a day when I jumped (in the air) after a good, long stretch (the last time was at school long ago).

To strengthen the same, bright sunny morning followed the refreshing rain.
While waiting for the session to begin, I took a momentary plunge to observe the preparation time for the same. Nischal, our Editorial Team head, highlighted few significant reasons of the 'interaction' session to every one of us. Usually, the session schedule includes of multiple tasks. This time, however, it was a assessment session. We only wanted to assess kids and need to trace talents in kids.

There was a unique exuberance in every volunteer who attended to session today. Oblivious up then what it was all about, what today session is about stays crystal clear in our mind.

Today's session offered me an insight of schools/Sahaya:
The organisational hierarchy in the Sahaya team starting with a volunteers, School Heads, editorial team & all the way till the core team is probably the reason how our operations school this year well be so structured, delivered and monitored. This hierarchy will ensured that decision making is decentralized but yet accountable without slowing down the program implementation. Dedicated volunteers to respective classes/Schools will increase the benefits of learning by children.
The World of Difference journey for me has been a Journey of Discovery.
Discovering joy, hope, positivity, contentment in every volunteer.
Discovering the amazing world of Sahaya that is touching the lives of children in such a wonderful manner and helping them take on the world with confidence.
All in all, it was a new day, in every possible sense. Our session coupled with interaction to many bright hearts. We returned renewed and energized.

Cheers,
Srikanth :-)
